Freelancer vs. Entrepreneur: What’s the Difference?
Written by Linda
While you may think the terms “freelancer” and “entrepreneur” are interchangeable, there are striking differences between the two. Seth Godin, a well-known author and executive, likely explains it best by characterizing a freelancer as someone who simply gets paid by the project or hour, while entrepreneurs are engaged in the process of building a sustainable business.
If you’re a freelancer striving to launch a start-up or small business or you simply want to adopt a more entrepreneurial mindset, there are lots of best practices that you can implement. Here are a few that I think are especially key to ensure the highest level of professionalism and maximum profits:
Make long-term plans and execute them.
The foundation of a sustainable business is developing five-year and ten-year plans that outline proven and actionable strategies for long-term success.
Learn to pivot with change.
Even with extensive planning, things happen that force business owners to change their course. Being able to adapt to changing markets and trends, technology, consumer preferences and more ensures that your business will remain sustainable.
Make clients and customers your priority.
Great customer service is not only the key to a successful transaction, but helps to drive repeat business and revenue.
Market your success.
Showcase your successes on your website, in social media and in traditional news media to drive visibility and attract even more customers, contracts and sales.
What is the difference between a freelancer and an entrepreneur? The current market makes it easy to gloss over these key differences. But they exist.
